A natural or legal person in the EU appointed by a non-EU provider to act on their behalf: keeps technical documentation and the EU declaration, cooperates with authorities including the AI Office, handles incidents and ensures corrective actions. Required for non-EU providers placing AI systems or GPAI on the EU market, whether directly, integrated, or remote.
Who needs it? Non-EU providers. EU importers, distributors and deployers do not appoint one themselves, but must ensure their non-EU provider does.
