What is the AI Act?
EU Regulation 1689/2024
The AI Act is the European Union’s comprehensive regulation on artificial intelligence, officially known as Regulation (EU) 2024/1689. It’s a multi-step legislation with many provisions already in force, designed to ensure AI systems are safe, transparent, and respect fundamental rights.

About Me
Lawyer & AI Engine Pro User
I’m a lawyer using AI Engine Pro to deliver AI-powered legal services for other Italian lawyers. You can check out my work at ChatLeg.pro (it’s in Italian, but you’ll get the idea!).
From this passion for AI came the idea for this service: most SaaS, AI-as-a-Service, and AI projects I see online are not compliant and can risk fines and website obscuration, aside from potential brand damage.
Important: EU consumers and users have become culturally picky about AI compliance — and rightly so! Non-compliance isn’t just a legal risk; it’s a brand reputation risk.

How AI Engine Projects Fit Under the AI Act
Most AI Engine projects are GPT wrappers with RAG. Here’s what that means legally:
You’re a PROVIDER if you:
- • Rebrand and repackage the underlying model
- • Add RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation)
- • “Substantially modify” the underlying model
Higher obligations: Documentation, risk management, conformity assessment
You’re a DEPLOYER if you:
- • Simple GPT wrapper as-is
- • Only prompt engineering
- • No substantial modifications to the model
Lower obligations: Due diligence, monitoring, transparency
Based on Extensive Research
My extensive studies and deep research on the AI Act have led me to determine these classifications under the current scope of the legislation. The distinction matters significantly for your compliance obligations.
